Quick size guide
Photos can make cages and habitats look different from real life. Always check the full dimensions, usable floor area, bar spacing and intended use before ordering.
What to check
1. External size
Length, width and height of the full item.
2. Usable floor area
The actual space the pet can move around in.
3. Door access
Check doors are suitable for cleaning and safe handling.
4. Bar spacing
Bars must be safe for the species and pet size.
5. Use type
Main habitat, temporary use, sleeping area or add on.
6. Enrichment space
Room for hides, food, water, toys and exercise.
Choose by pet type
Rabbits
Most small cages are not suitable as the only full time living space. Rabbits need a much larger permanent area with daily exercise, hiding space and room to stretch out.
Guinea pigs
Prioritise continuous floor space over height. Guinea pigs need space to move, hide, forage and live comfortably, especially when kept in pairs or groups.
Hamsters
Look for usable floor area, deep bedding space, a suitable wheel, hides, chew items and space for natural behaviours such as digging and foraging.
Rats
Rats need climbing space, hammocks, shelves, enrichment and suitable bar spacing. Height is useful, but floor space and access also matter.
Birds
Check cage width, bar spacing, door access and space for perches, food, toys and movement. Birds need enough space to move safely and comfortably.
Ferrets
Ferrets need secure housing, multiple levels where suitable, sleeping areas, enrichment and regular exercise outside the enclosure.
